July 24, 2016 – PACPI, in collaboration with Province of Negros has been conducting series of reseeding activities as part of its stock enhancement program that started in 2010.

At least 10 fisherfolk communities have been recipients of these on-going enhancement efforts since it started in May this year. Among them are E.B. Magalona, Manapla and cities of Talisay Victorias, Cadiz, and Sagay, each having at least 2 barangays that have been covered to date.

Gov. Alfredo Maranon, Jr. expresses utmost support to the initiative, recognizing the need to replenish exploited crab stocks to ensure long-term vitality of the resource. Most efforts are focused in Northern Negros Island where Visayan Sea, the country’s foremost blue swimming crab fishing ground, lies. According to the National Stock Assessment Program, Visayan Sea is experiencing growth and recruitment overfishing due to increasing pressure from unregulated fishing activities.

To date, 300,458 crab juveniles have been released into the wild.
